Abstract

In the last decades, the mobile technologies have undergone an astonishing process of development, becoming an indispensable tool in the performance of the labor and personal activities. In this context, the movement Bring Your Own Device arises, which is also verified in the educational institutions' environment. The use of mobile devices implies in the consumption of electric energy, typical behavior associated with the connection of the devices to the electric power network as a means of recharge. This research aims to identify the impacts of the use of personal mobile devices on the consumption of electricity in a higher education institution. For that, the case study was used as a method, with documentary analysis and survey. The population of interest comprised technical-administrative servants, teachers and students. However, it was observed that the impacts on the consumption of electric energy are remarkably relevant, and that 20.19% of the electricity bill for the month of analysis is due to the use of personal mobile devices in connection with the electric power grid.
