Abstract

Hackathon is a marathon of the programming which is growing and gaining adepts each day, such as students, professionals, teachers and technology
enthusiasts. That event aims to promote innovation and technological advancement through cooperative work between multi and interdisciplinary teams proposing
technological solutions. This research presents evidences to consider the Hackathon as a Community of Practice (CoP). For this purpose, data collection took place
through interviews with participants from the world's largest Hackathon, accomplished at a higher education institution in the city of Maringá-PR. The results
revealed that Hackathon has characteristics of a CoP and that marathon participants can bring the benefits of CoP within their works.
