Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify what kind of institutionalized and non-institutionalized communication tools provides communication within software development teams. This is an exploratory and quantitative study. The data were collected based on a structured questionnaire took place with 52 individuals from 10 different software development companies. Our findings point out that E-mail, Slack, Skype, and WhatsApp are examples of communication tools that provide communication to software development team members. Furthermore, we observed that those tools can improve communication channels among teams. Inversely, non-institutionalized communication tools can lead an organization to the loss of knowledge.
