Abstract

Games configure a broad mediating system with multiple categories. Including those dedicated to entertainment, games in general also offer possibilities for knowledge. The general potential and the basic relationships between games and knowledge are described in this paper as a result of qualitative-descriptive studies, which were carried out with stages of exploratory, bibliographical and documentary research. Among the results obtained, the ways in which knowledge can be created, offered, stored and shared, the details of the knowledge mediation process in games, the role of the game designer and the function of visual syntax in this process stand out. Finally, we conclude that, in part, games can and should be considered as “knowledge media”.
