Abstract

The understanding of language over time has brought several possibilities for
studies regarding its effects, in the process of recognizing oneself and the other. The
maritime expansion in the 16th century provided travelers with linguistic contacts with
various peoples and their different cultures, allowing researchers later in the 19th
century to delve into the study of “living languages, the comparative study of speeches,
to the detriment of a more abstract reasoning about the language". Thus emerged the
question of this research: how does the use of figures of speech in the media contribute
to the transmission of interpretation and translation in Brazilian Sign Language? For
that, a systematic review of the literature was carried out with searches in three
databases: Periodicals CAPES, Scielo, Science and bibliographical reading with
emphasis on readings referring to “deaf people and knowledge sharing”; “figure of
speech and Brazilian sign language”; “Semantics and Brazilian Sign Language”. The
result presented evidenced the need for this field of study to be deepened and that they
need a framework to continue to elucidate questions regarding the transmission of
interpretation and translation in Brazilian Sign Language, in the context of deaf culture
