Abstract

The integration of digital technologies has been transforming the teaching and learning processes in various fields. In physical education, the use of immersive technologies such as virtual reality and the metaverse has the potential to make classes more engaging and meaningful. However, their effective implementation still faces barriers related to infrastructure, teacher training, and the development of inclusive solutions. This study, aiming to delve into these issues, will summarize the available evidence on the effects of these technologies on the teaching and learning of physical education, through an integrative literature review. This synthesis of knowledge will support the development of strategies and solutions that maximize the potential of virtual reality and the metaverse to enhance the pedagogical quality of physical education teaching.
