Abstract

This article analyzes the production of patents and scientific articles in federal higher education institutions in Santa Catarina. Using ten years of data, a significant increase in the number of registered patents and published articles was observed, especially by the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC), and the Catarinense Federal Institute (IFC). Despite the increase in patents, the production of scientific articles remains higher, reflecting the academic culture and the challenges in patent registration and commercialization. It is concluded that, to maximize the impact of research, it is necessary to strengthen innovation policies and encourage technology transfer, balancing scientific production with technological innovation.
