Abstract

The university extension has as basic principle the dialogue with society. Calls for extension proposals are made through public notices that describe the guidelines and general rules for the process. Communication between the actors involved during the preparation and submission of such proposals is centralized and generally implemented through traditional channels such as e-mail, telephone and face-to-face service. In addition, there is no mechanism to allow prior interaction between a problem-demanding external entity and an extensionist who can meet that demand. This paper then presents an approach developed through knowledge management process called KM Cycle to improve communication in the process of elaboration and submission of proposals for extension projects. Among outcomes this work are: design and implementation of a Community of Practice (CoP) to allow communication more effective between actors involved in the context treated; and proposition and evaluation of a knowledge management systematic which can be reused in the resolution of related problems.
