Abstract

This study analyzes patterns and trends of scientific production regarding relational leadership. The method used is the bibliometric analysis of the publications obtained in systematic searches in four international indexing databases of journals and a national database. Among the 414 publications located, 130 were selected for this study. The results show that the use of the term "relational leadership" is relatively recent in the scientific literature, with the highest concentration of works since 2006. From the analysis of the bibliometric data one can assert that the academic production regarding relational leadership is in the expansion stage of the empirical studies in the international scenario and that there is a gap of knowledge to be explored in the Brazilian scenario. This study contributes to the understanding of the evolution of the theme "relational leadership”, identifies the authors with more publications on the subject, and reveals the most outstanding works internationally. It may serve as a basis for future studies in the area.
