Abstract

This study involves a narrative review from a exploratory research on the use of repository of Open Educational Resources (OER) for higher education in the health area using the active methodology of problem-based learning. The research sought to raise the state of the art in the use of these repositories, focusing on the necessary characteristics for the effectiveness of such OERs, in a sustainable manner, to supply the need of ready-to-be-used content for problem-based learning activities. As a result, this research has found publications that presented different forms, tools and policies for the construction of these OERs, especially on medical education. Some of them use OERs in the form of virtual patients, which are interactive computational simulations that can be used as content to support problem-based learning activities. It also highlighted the importance of the repositories to stimulate the dissemination of problem-based learning methodology. The conclusion indicated that the operational mode of an OER repository need to make feasible the spiral of knowledge of the SECI (Socialization, Explicitation, Combination and Internalization) model so that its collection can mature and flourish.
