CHARACTERIZATION OF THE USE OF PARTICULAR MOBILE DEVICES (PMD) IN HEI
Abstract
The popularization of mobile devices makes Personal Mobile Devices (DMP) widely used as mediators in the performance of all tasks, whether personal or professional. This work characterizes the purposes and permanence of the use of WMD in a Higher Education Institution (HEI). For that, a multi-level study was carried out with an exploratory approach, using a structured questionnaire to collect information in a sample of 386 respondents, stratified in 245 students, 82 teachers and 59 administrative technicians. As results it is pointed out that 97.4% of the sample studied are DMP users in HEI, being the notebook and smartphone with higher incidence and time of use. The main benefits include facilitating the sharing of learning materials and information, usefulness for daily activities, greater flexibility, access to various tasks simultaneously and the best option in the fast search for information on the Internet. As limitations, it is pointed mainly to insufficient electrical and furniture infrastructure, lack of user support, as well as intrinsic characteristics of the equipment, such as screen sizes and keyboards, high weight, incompatible technical specifications, and limited processing capacity. As subsidies capable of assisting in the elaboration and application of BYOD policy in the IES, among which, it is pointed out: the need to guarantee the use of the equipment without limitations; analyzing investments by adopting the most appropriate solution for available financial and personal resources; define platforms, devices and security levels controlled; and, the access security policy adopted.
