Enhancing Organisational Knowledge: The Emerging Role of Generative AI in the Digital Era
Keywords:
Generative AI, Knowledge Management, Digital Transformation, Absorptive CapacityAbstract
Introduction: As digital transformation becomes increasingly embedded within organisations, research must advance to address how the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) enhances knowledge absorption processes.
Purpose: This article examines the theoretical and empirical relationship between Generative Artificial Intelligence and absorptive capacity processes, identifying potential benefits and critical challenges for AI research. It highlights existing gaps and proposes directions for future research.
Methodology: A systematic literature review was conducted using the Scopus and Web of Science databases. A total of 126 articles were initially identified. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 35 were selected for full reading, of which 13 were retained for final analysis.
Findings: Four thematic groups were identified: 1) The role of Generative AI in knowledge creation processes; 2) The integration of Generative AI with existing knowledge management systems; 3) The impact of Generative AI on knowledge sharing and application; 4) Factors influencing the adoption of Generative AI for knowledge management. An integrated conceptual framework was proposed to map the interactions between Generative AI technologies and absorptive capacity processes, offering theoretical and practical insights and proposing a research agenda.
Conclusion: The most significant challenges concerning the interplay between these topics include security, privacy, and ethical considerations; resistance to AI adoption and organisational change; the quality and reliability of AI-generated knowledge; and the need for human oversight and adequate integration.
