Mapping Good Practices for Business Incubator Management
Keywords:
Organizational maturity, Knowledge transfer, Incubation methodology, Innovation ecosystemAbstract
Recent studies indicate that incubators face management challenges associated with the heterogeneity of the ecosystems in which they operate, varying across sectors and business profiles. Additionally, access to management-related information is limited, as many incubators develop their own methodologies and impose restrictions on the disclosure of strategic data, hindering knowledge exchange. Thus, the adoption of an incubator management methodology based on well-established cases within the ecosystem and best practices enhances operational efficiency and improves the quality of support provided to startups. In this context, the objective of this research is to map and understand how these incubators structure their processes to achieve high levels of maturity and efficiency in innovation management. The methodology adopted consists of a survey study combined with technical visits to Brazilian incubators with recognized maturity levels. Data collection and analysis enabled the identification of patterns, challenges, and best practices, facilitating the systematization of knowledge and providing guidelines for other incubators seeking to improve their processes and achieve greater excellence in management. The results of this research offer insights into effective incubation practices that can contribute to strengthening the innovation ecosystem. The dissemination of the findings from this mapping may encourage other incubators to adopt more efficient methodologies, fostering an environment conducive to the sustainable development of supported ventures. We conclude that this study contributes to the continuous improvement of incubator management in Brazil, allowing more institutions to scale their operations in a structured manner and positively impact the innovation landscape.
