Abstract

Knowledge is an intangible strategic resource for achieving a sustainable competitive advantage. Knowledge sharing (KS) is positively influenced by absorp-tive capacity. Absorptive capacity can be defined as a cognitive structure that identifies the importance of knowledge, assimilates, transforms, and applies knowledge. On the other hand, knowledge hiding (KH) can hinder an individual's absorptive capacity to identify new knowledge. KH can be classified in three types: evasive; play dumb; and rationalized. This study aims to verify the relationship between KH (evasive, play dumb, rationalized), potential absorp-tive capacity – PACAP (acquisition and assimilation), and realized absorptive capacity - RACAP (transformation and application). The research method was a survey. The sample consisted of 228 managers, assistants, and analysts from a Cooperative Financial Institution, and it represents a response rate of approxi-mately 72%. The Cooperative Financial Institution was selected because they need to share knowledge to the population, so that the population can benefit from banking knowledge. KS should occur inside the times, and among different times in the Cooperative Financial Institution. Exploratory factor analysis with the support of SPSS and structural equation modelling with the support of Smart-PLS were adopted to data analysis. This study identified rationalized KH negatively influencing acquisition (PACAP) and exploration (RACAP). In addi-tion, it supported the relationship between acquisition and assimilation, assimi-lation and transformation, and transformation and exploration. The main academic contribution was identifying the relationship between KH and absorptive capacity. The main managerial contribution was identifying the type of KH that can hinder absorptive capacity.
