Keywords:
Knowledge management, Sustainable innovation, Sustainability in the organizationAbstract
In the context of global sustainability challenges, knowledge and innovation have emerged as essential drivers of long-term organizational development. As businesses shift from linear to circular economic models, knowledge becomes a strategic asset that supports the creation of sustainable innovation.
The research problem addressed in this study is: What is the significance and value of knowledge management and sustainable innovation for organizations pursuing sustainability?
The study aims to explore the role of knowledge management in enabling the implementation of sustainable innovation within organizations.
Methodology: A qualitative case study strategy was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and content analysis of strategic documents to investigate how knowledge management practices are applied in a real organizational context.
Results: The empirical findings indicate that effective knowledge management significantly contributes to sustainable innovation. A supportive organizational culture, strong leadership, and continuous learning are key enablers of knowledge management processes. Furthermore, the analysis of strategic documents revealed that knowledge management and sustainability goals are integrated into the organization’s core strategic planning, reinforcing innovation and adaptive capacity.
Conclusions: The implementation of sustainable innovation is closely linked to an organization's ability to generate, share, and apply knowledge. Innovation competence and knowledge-based decision-making are critical in achieving sustainability objectives. Thus, sustainable innovation reflects not only a shift in operational practices but also a strategic commitment to long-term value creation for both society and the environment.
