THE THRESHOLD BETWEEN INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM AND OPEN INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM CONCEPTS: A SCIENTOMETRIC PERSPECTIVE

Innovating is essential for compamies' survival. However, it is more effective that the costs of innovation are shared with the company's partners, through knowledge flows, from the external to the internal environment, but also the opposite, in open innovation. Innovation takes place in ecosystems, with their actors, capital flows, knowledge and the like. Innovation ecosystem is an umbrella term from which many others derive. It aims to investigate the relationship between open innovation ecosystems and innovation ecosystems and draw their limits. Methodologically, scientometrics is used, by the co-occurrence of keywords in papers in the Scopus database. It was found that innovation ecosystems employ a more formal and restricted approach, whereas open innovation ecosystems emphasize the human being for innovating throughout the value chain, through a diversity of partners.
