Abstract

Open peer review is addressed by several authors and has been increasingly adopted as an aspect of the Open Science movement in recent years. Thus, this study aims to investigate the main practices and definitions of Open Peer Review. Through a qualitative approach, a non-systematic review of the literature was carried out, qualified as action research and with an intentional non-probabilistic sampling technique. Peer review is considered “open” when review reports and reviewer identities are made available. On the other hand, an evaluation can also be open to social comments, referees' credentials, and others. It was concluded that it is still far from a single definition for the Open Peer Review, as well as practices and processes are not clearly established.
