Abstract

The Environmental Management Accounting System is an environmental management tool that unites Accounting, through controls, with the environment. The System addresses environmental, economic and social factors to identify activities with low ecological efficiency and propose sustainable solutions for the various actors involved in this issue. Based on this idea, and on the knowledge of the red ceramic sector as an underdeveloped sector, with outdated production processes and great environmental impact, this paper proposes the use of this method to help industry managers to verify the enviromental sustainability index of their corporations. The results of this work consist of mapping the main pollutant sources, evaluating the company's sustainability index to be 72.6%, and implementing actions that generate value for the environment.
