Abstract

The innovation ecosystem is a concept that has gained notoriety and popularity in the
21st century. The result of different theories about innovation, interaction and collaboration, its
broad and flexible concept made it possible to use it in different contexts and approaches. Therefore,
this research aims to analyze the historical evolution that gave rise to the concept of innovation
ecosystems and to present the different ecosystem analogies. To achieve the proposed objective, a
bibliographic and integrative review was carried out in the Scopus and Web of Science databases,
which brought together 22 articles that are discussed in the results of this study. As a result, it was
possible to identify different types of ecosystem analogies and different types of innovation
ecosystems. The conclusion that the ecosystem concept must be used consistently according to each
