Abstract

Sustainability challenges are becoming more and more present and the role of governments is
fundamental for sustainable urban development. The Sharing Economy emerged as a possibility to face the
challenges of urban sustainability. As the Sharing Economy (SE) gains, governance in cities becomes a crucial
means to enable the SE to fulfill its role of optimizing resources for a more just and sustainable world. The
objective of this article is to map and describe the evolution of the topic of Governance in SE, based on a
bibliographic analysis conducted in the Scopus database. Given that SE is a new area, it is concluded that there
are diverse needs for studies that involve contexts, especially not those that refer to developing countries, as SE
has a strong connection with endogenous issues.
