Abstract

It is a consensus in the literature that, among the pillars of smart cities, governance and technology are key components. Smart cities require governance that takes into account the diversity of stakeholders at multiple levels. However, even while understanding Multilevel Governance as the model that generates a shared vision among different actors and information technologies as indispensable for its structuring, there is a knowledge gap regarding the interrelationship of these terms within the context of smart cities. Therefore, through an integrative review, this study aims to analyze the bibliometric and integrative results of research that relates information technology and governance to the context of smart cities. The results indicate that technology becomes an essential mechanism for enhancing the outcomes desired by governance.
