Abstract

This article discusses the importance of managing people by competencies and explores the role of the individual development plan as a tool for organizational commitment. A literature review revealed that the individual development plan allows employees to indicate and develop their skills, establish improvement goals and receive adequate support and feedback, aligning them with organizational goals. The aim of this study is to analyze the existing literature on the topic and provide insights into how the individual development plan can be implemented in practice to promote organizational commitment. Through bibliographic and exploratory research, along with a questionnaire sent to employees from various companies in the country, it was concluded, based on the collected sample, that the individual development plan can provide a structured approach to the development of employees' individual competencies, while also strengthening their connection and commitment to the organization. This can result in increased engagement, job satisfaction, and commitment to the company's objectives. However, challenges such as lack of top management support can impact the effectiveness of this tool. The findings highlight the importance of organizations investing in people skills management strategies and in the proper use of the individual development plan to strengthen organizational commitment. These considerations are relevant to buyers, human resource professionals, and researchers interested in promoting an engaged and productive work environment.
