Abstract

This article seeks to identify which concepts of participation were applied to Mission Oriented Innovation (MOI) from January 2013 to March 2023. The universe of publications analyzed is comprised of those that contain the term "mission-oriented innovation" (MOI), since Mariana Mazzucato popularized the term from her book The Entrepreneurial State, in 2013. This review is structured as follows: a discussion on the concept of mission-oriented innovation and the element of directionality; then we bring the argument of participation as the critical characteristic for the construction of directionality in MOI; then the description of the methodology used for the review; we go through elements of bibliometric analysis of the set of publications reviewed; we propose a categorization of concepts of participation in MOI identified in the articles; we bring the limits of this review and, finally, the conclusions of this work.
