Abstract

Clusters, in essence, gather characteristics that can favor the development of internationalization activities, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This research aims to investigate how the integration of the furniture cluster in São Bento do Sul develops with the external market, within the scope of SMEs in the region. A survey was conducted with a sample of seven producing and exporting companies from the region. Generally, this research identified the importance of factors such as the availability of raw materials, the culture, and reputation of the region for the internationalization of these firms. It is noteworthy that even though the companies in the region have been operating sustainably in foreign markets for a long time, they still do not establish the prices and design of their exported products.
