Keywords:

Over the years, the topic of Sustainable Aviation has evolved to a high priority in the aviation industry, essentially created by the pressure and the need to reduce the emissions caused by the sector. Leveraging data analytics will be crucial for creating sustainable business models that can adapt quickly to market demands. Digitalization will also support businesses to simplify and optimize operations, lower costs, and offer customized services. This study aims to explore how sustainability data and innovation can enable new sustainable aviation business models, especially Software-as-a-Service business models (SaaS-based). Eleven interviews with key aviation stakeholders were conducted. The results demonstrated there is an opportunity for developing a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business model centered on sustainability performance data in aviation. The identified unmet needs indicated that areas such as environmental monitoring, emissions tracking, noise management, and trajectory optimization are in demand by the stakeholders of the aviation industry. These crucial insights emphasized that sustainability-focused digital solutions represent the future of aviation mobility while also representing a clear pathway for new value propositions and revenue streams in the evolving aviation landscape.
