Resumo

As a form of knowledge management, both private organizations and public institutions have increasingly given importance to protection through intellectual property requests. This adds to the growing relevance of knowledge, which is seen as a strategy of competitive advantage in organizations. Thus, using the multiple case study, the present research aims to illustrate the intellectual property request in two different organizations (SMEs and public universities). Through data analysis and interviews, it is observed that the objectives that drive the request for protection of ideas in the two contexts are not the same. It is also noticed that the arrangement, the autonomy of the project team, the methodology and the project management are slightly different in the two contexts observed.
