The Influence of Artificial Intelligence on Intellectual Capital of Public and Private Organizations in Santa Catarina

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in its generative branch, have significantly transformed organizational processes. Despite this, research on the impact of these technologies on organizational intangible assets remains scarce. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of generative AI on the three dimensions of intellectual capital (IC) – human, structural, and relational – in public and private organizations in the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. This exploratory study has a descriptive character and a quantitative approach supported by qualitative elements. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire based on the IC model and distributed via Google Forms to several organizations in Santa Catarina between May and June 2025. Ten of these organizations responded, forming a non-probabilistic convenience sample. Most of the questions were multiple-choice, complemented by open-ended questions that allowed for the collection of qualitative perceptions regarding the impacts of AI on IC-related processes. The results show that the application of AI is still in its initial phase, primarily in the private sector. Its use is mainly focused on enhancing productivity and managing knowledge, while practices related to developing people remain largely unexplored. There was also a notable frequency of unawareness regarding institutional AI use, even among respondents with significant tenure in their organizations. These findings reveal gaps in internal communication and the institu-tionalization of Ai, suggesting that, although AI is present in many everyday activities, its integration with IC remains limited.
