Abstract

The opening of the foreign market made it possible to advance the internationalization process of many companies, encouraging them to seek their insertion in this new context. The changes in the economic and political scenarios made it possible for not only large organizations but especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), to ambition a slice of this market. Thus, the process of international insertion of SME has been emphasized in scientific studies and a strong expansion of academic production that analyzes internationalization models has filled a large space in literature. Understanding this phenomenon, through existing theoretical models, and identifying the risk factors for internationalization are the objectives of this study. Through a descriptive and exploratory research, we present, as a result, the design of a new framework, supported by five factors that can support decision making in the process of risk analysis: international knowledge; tangible and intangible resources, international networks, innovation and public policies.
