Abstract

The process of manufacturing prosthetic sockets using the traditional method, has two problematic situations: the discomfort caused by prolonged physical contact with the patient and the final adjustment of the socket. The research was to establish a process for the sockets obtention of trans-tibial amputations, with digital manufacturing implementation. To the research development, Design thinking was applied in five steps: 1-Empathize, a review of the literature; 2-Define, the main development guidelines for the process were raised; 3-Design, technologies for sockets design were implemented; 4-Prototyping, the prototyping technique was used to obtain models and 5-Test, user´s walking test and patients' comfort perception were performed to verify the proposed process. As results, it was observed that the proposed process represents a decrease in the number of phases and less time. It was verified, that the sockets were adapted to the conditions of the residual limb, allowing the mobility and the development of the harmonic gait making these elements functional.
