Abstract

In this study we discuss how Management Consulting (CG) contribute to the adoption of Open Innovation (OI) strategies in Small and medium Enterprises (SMEs). The body of literature used in this study suggests that MC are an external source of knowledge for SMEs that adopt outside-in open innovation strategies. Objectively, the knowledge of MC provided in SMEs is composed of three interrelated elements that are integrated throughout the innovation process: methods and tools; cases; and the experience of individual consultants. It is a knowledge that is the result of network interactions that, unlike information, is useful in conducting concrete behaviors. One of these behaviors refers to innovation management that does not represent something really new, rather it is often driven through incremental and standardized approaches.
