Abstract

Anomalous experiences is the present-day and scientific term for what has been called paranormal phenomena, or parapsychological, or extra-sensorial, or psy, or mediunic; the alledged “telepathy”, “clairvoyance”, “precognition”, “astral travel”, “cure at a distance”, “divination practices”, among others. The purpose of this article was to understand how anomalous experiences can be considered knowledge experiences. Eight students from the postgraduate course in Engineering and Knowledge Management, from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, who claimed to have had some kind of anomalous experience, and who wanted to participate voluntarily in the study, were informants. The data were collected through unstructured interviews, in depth, and analyzed by thematic analysis. There was no generalization of the results, given the qualitative nature of the research. The conclusion was that the reported experiences are explanatory descriptions of a loving and desirable nature and have cognitive value.
