The Poetics of Artificial Intelligence: An Analysis of the IAGen Adobe Firefly Tool through the Lens of Agency and Remediation
Keywords:

The theme of this research encompasses new artificial intelligence technologies and the evolution of digital media within this context. This study focuses on the generative AI tool 'Adobe Firefly', which enables image creation through text prompts, aiming to discuss the artifact through the concept of “Agency” and “Remediation”, considered poetics of digital media. Therefore, the close reading method was employed for tool analysis, exploring its relationship with the sense of agency and its techniques for remediating existing media. The results show that 'Firefly' demonstrates notable performance in generating abstract images, remediating techniques such as watercolor and illustration, albeit with irregularities in realistic images, such as photography, especially those depicting human figures. Points were identified where the explainability of the tool and occurrences of AI hallucinations may interfere with the sense of agency, in relation to existing literature. These findings contribute to an understanding of the practical implications of AI-mediated media creation and emphasize the importance of reflecting on creative practices emerging in this context.
