Abstract

Entrepreneurship presents itself as an alternative both for the longer-lived society and those approaching retirement age, to remain active. However, it demands a range of new skills and others already consolidated. This study analyzed how life and career experiences influence the entrepreneurship of people who start businesses at age 50 or older. Interviews were conducted with 24 senior entrepreneurs. The results highlight the ability of these entrepreneurs to use their life experiences as a source of maturity for conducting their businesses, seeking new learning, and articulating their behavioral skills in favor of the development of new skills. The research suggests expanding the sample and deepening the exploration of these entrepreneurs' motivations.
