Abstract

With population growth in cities, studies are necessary on the impacts on the supply of basic needs. To supply the demands, cities need to become smarter and combine technology and urban development. Also, one of the reasons people improve the quality of life in cities is entrepreneurship. Based on this, the concepts of smart cities and entrepreneurial cities was use that seek to analyze cities in different aspects. As a form of measurement, rankings appear to be able to add advantages to cities. However, these may not reflect the reality and the needs of them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to compare the indicators of the smart cities ranking (Connected Smart Cities) and entrepreneurial cities rankings (Endeavor) for the year 2016 in order to analyze the singularity and the need that this ranking proposes to supply. For this, was do an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative research about the rankings, in which it was conduct in four phases: selection, identification of dimensions, identification of indicators and a comparison between them. As a result, it was possible to perceive that the rankings have similarities in aspects like infrastructure, but with different approaches, in order to supply the necessity that each one proposes. Thus, more in-depth rankings, based on scientific knowledge, are necessary to indicate the reality of each city typology.
