Abstract

This investigation analyzed the life stories of offshore oil and gas workers in order to understand their motivations for entering and staying in this sector, as well as the resources mobilized by them to face this type of work routine. Thirty-one interviews were conducted in two offshore units operating in the Brazilian coast, a drilling unit, and a production unit. The method used for data collection and analysis was the Biographical Reconstructive Method. The results indicate that this type of analysis can provide us with important insights into the technical and non-technical knowledge used by workers in the face of the high degree of unpredictability and risk in offshore work processes.
