Abstract

ChatGPT, the generative Artificial Intelligence-based chatbot features generating cohesive and human-like responses to user inputs. The presented study reviews some applications from the field and reflects on experiences from the classroom to enrich our understanding of ChatGPT’s capabilities across subject domains, how it can be used in educational settings, and issues raised by facilitators. The findings of this review suggest that ChatGPT’s use and effects varies across subject domains and didactic settings. Although ChatGPT has the potential to serve as an assistant for knowledge provision and a virtual tutor for learners, there are substantial challenges associated with its use. They include assignments and assessments and affect educational designs and institutional anchoring.
