POETICS OF NEW MEDIA: A LOOK AT AUDIO DESCRIPTION IN INCLUDING PEOPLE WITH VISUAL DISABILITIES

Abstract

This article presents the analysis of the movie trailer: “Teu Mundo não Fit nos Meus Olhos”, which uses audiodescription as Assistive Technology (ATs) for the accessibility of people with visual impairments. Its objective was to analyze and deconstruct the artifact (film trailer) from the poetics of new media under the lens of narrative and focus. The central question of this article was: how can the observation and analysis of an audiovisual artifact, through the lens of the poetics of new media, contribute to the inclusion of people with visual impairments? The method used to answer it was Close Reading or reading in detail. The results indicate that audio description is an essential tool for the accessibility of people with visual impairments.

Eliana Pereira dos Santos, Federal University of Santa Catarina

Career Public Servant of the Federal Public Ministry-MPF since 1994. Graduated in Pedagogy - UDF Centro Universitário do Distrito Federal. Specialist in HR and NGO Management from the University of Brasília. Master's degree in Education from the Catholic University of Brasília. She worked in the following areas of the institution: People Management, education and professional development. She taught training, training and professional training courses for the agency's employees in face-to-face and distance learning formats. It produces content for private educational institutions. She worked at the MPF Social Communication Secretariat on Citizenship Education projects, aimed at primary and secondary education. She headed the Institutional Security Strategic Planning area from 2012 to 2016. She participated in the preparation and implementation of the Quality of Life at Work Policy. Currently, she carries out her professional activities in the Administration Coordination of the Attorney General's Office / MPF / SC. She is a teacher of professional training courses and a producer of distance learning content and a scriptwriter for educational digital media for public and private institutions. She works as a volunteer at an NGO in Florianópolis on a Social Innovation project.

Maria Luciane Fadel, Federal University of Santa Catarina

Graduated in Visual Communication from the Federal University of Paraná (1987), graduated in Computer Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (1994), graduated in 2nd Degree from the Federal Technological University of Paraná (1992), master's degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (2001) and a PhD in Typography & Graphic Communication - University of Reading (2007) and Post-Doctorate in Narratives supervised by Prof. Jim Bizzocchi at Simon Fraser University, Canada. She is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Graphic Expression at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Co-leads the Digital Accessibility and Assistive Technologies Research Group and participates in the Hypermedia Environment Study Group focused on the Teaching-Learning process and the SAITE Group - Technology and Innovation in Health Education, at the Federal University of Maranhão. He is a member of the International Reference Group (IRG) on the use of digital storytelling in the treatment of patients in Palliative care at SFU. He has experience in the area of Design for Experience with an emphasis on Human Computer Interaction, working mainly on the following topics: interaction design, narratives, user experience, new media and digital storytelling.

Vânia Ribas Ulbricht, Federal University of Santa Catarina

She has a degree in Mathematics, a master's degree and a doctorate in Production Engineering from UFSC. She was a visiting professor at the Federal University of Paraná in the Postgraduate Program in Design (2012-2014). Researcher at Université Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne). She provides voluntary service at UFSC's PPEGC. She was a fellow in Productivity and Technological Development and Innovative Extension from 2009 to 2013, DT / CNPq. Project coordinator: Media, Technologies and Language Resources for a learning environment accessible to the deaf, approved by the CNPq through CALL N 84/2013 MCTI-SECIS/CNPq- ASSISTANT TECNOLOGY / B - Emerging Centers She was a CNPq scholarship holder in the DTI modality -A. She has experience in the area of Education, with an emphasis on Educational Technology, working mainly on the following topics: accessibility, teaching-learning, hypermedia, hypermedia design, geometry and descriptive geometry. Since 1981, she has coordinated several national and international events, among which the following stand out: the National Congress of Design, Gráphicas, Conahpas and Cinahpas. She is a volunteer full professor and permanent professor in the Postgraduate Program in Engineering and Knowledge Management at UFSC. Since 2014, she has been leader of the Digital Accessibility and Assistive Technologies Center registered with CNPq.
