STUDY OF THE SATISFACTION FACTORS OF THE STUDENTS FROM DISTANCE LEARNING: CASE STUDY IN AN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF SANTA CATARINA IN BRAZIL

The scenario of Distance Education in Brazil indicates an increase in the number of institutions that offer distance courses, as well in the number of students at this modality. This growth, however, has been accompanied by high dropout rate, fact that has concerned educational institutions. The evasion can be related to personal issues, but also to problems due to distance education methodology. Under this approach, the objective of this research is to understand the satisfaction factors of the students in the distance learning. A case study was done in a Higher Education Institution in the north of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, considering four different online graduation courses. A survey with a sample of 100 students was done to identified the main factors that influence student’s satisfaction with online courses. Beside this, an analysis of the Institutional Assessment of the researched courses was done, considering the second quarter of 2013 until the first quarter of 2015. As a result, it was identified that didactic material was the main satisfaction factor for this education institution, considering all the material posted at the learning management system. It was also identified the need of a better interaction between the students through the forums and chats, emphasizing the importance of the online tutor.
