Knowledge is one of the important intangible assets in the contemporary world. For this reason, knowledge management has been the object of study and research in different areas of knowledge. One of the steps for effective management is to obtain a diagnosis about the level of maturity of an organization in terms of knowledge management. However, few initiatives are taken in this direction. In this context, a diagnosis was made on the level of maturity in knowledge management at a university in the Midwest of Santa Catarina, Brazil.A cross-sectional study was carried out with the average administrative management, through a closed questionnaire and printed with the public administration of education. A descriptive and scalar analysis was performed to tabulate the data. It was verified that among the seven basic criteria used for the evaluation: leadership in knowledge management; processes; people; technology; knowledge management processes; learning and innovation; and results of knowledge management, the criterion better evaluated for the less well evaluated, a difference of two points was evidenced, on a scale of 0 to 23. It found that the level of maturity of knowledge management of the research institution is in a good level of maturity, however, recognize the need to manage knowledge and implement processes for this purpose in some areas.
