Abstract

Data need to be managed in its lifecycle, converted into information, knowledge and be the basis for supporting decisions. Data Governance (DG) defines policies and procedures to ensure proactive and efficient data management. Knowledge Creation (KC) can occur through the organization of prior knowledge in new forms, the combination of relevant informations, or even through insights about the application of existing knowledge in new contexts. Under the perspectives of the management and the discovery of knowledge, this paper aims to identify how DG and KC are interrelated, and how DG supports KC. Governing data promotes an increase in the potential value of data, when properly processed in information and knowledge, to support good decisions and management actions.
