Abstract

Communication mediation technologies often leave out important social clues for an effective interaction. In this sense, the concept of social presence arises, which encompasses an individual's perception of himself and the agents with whom he is interacting. Considering that games are a medium that has gained an increasing space in our society, this paper examines how social presence manifests itself in digital games. Through a literature review, we found elements that can affect the feeling of social presence in digital games. The results show that social presence is influenced by immersion, embodiment, division of attention, nature of the activity, type of multiplayer configuration and use of artificial intelligence.
