CREATION AND MAINTENANCE OF UNIVERSITY OR ACADEMIC SPIN-OFFS: A STUDY OF FACTORS OF FAILURE AND SUCCESS

Sharing knowledge produced by university research is a complex activity, especially when it involves commercial exploitation. One of the ways to share knowledge produced by university research is to create university spin-offs. This article aims to present the factors of failure and success in the creation of this type of company, based on research in the existing literature. The methodology is based on a systematic review with research of articles in three different databases and phases were defined for data consolidation. Several factors of failure and success cited by the studies were highlighted and these were grouped into categories. It was identified that all factors of failure and success should be considered because they have a strong impact on the creation and maintenance of university or academic spin-off.
