Abstract

The potential causes of financial crises and their effects on citizens' lives have sparked significant interest among the academic community and central banks, aiming to detect their occurrence early enough to enable timely intervention. Given the relevance of the topic, this study aims to map the scientific production related to Early Warning Systems (EWS) for systemic Financial Crises. The scoping review was identified as an appropriate methodological approach for this task, based on evidence found in this particularly new, heterogeneous, and complex body of research. As a result, a tendency to explore the potential of new indicators was observed, although those already established also remain important. Finally, trends indicate a shift in EWS from traditional approaches towards Artificial Intelligence.
