Abstract

Academic Spin-Offs represent an important form of technology and knowledge transfer for innovation and economic development. The aim of this paper is to analyze the main trends and thematic patterns in the scientific literature on Spin-Offs, as well as the evolution of academic production in this field. The methodology was a systematic literature review, combined with a bibliometric analysis. The main theoretical convergences found were: (1) Importance of Entrepreneurial Orientation; (2) University-Industry Collaboration; (3) Institutional and Political Support; (4) Networks and Capabilities; and (5) Facilitators and Support Programs. The systematic review reveals that the success of academic spin-offs is influenced by a combination of factors, including market orientation, the composition of the founding team, institutional support, and collaboration networks.
