Abstract

This article reviews the research from the past ten years on the integration of knowledge
management (KM) in smart cities. KM is essential for the development and implementation of
projects in smart cities, facilitating organizational learning, collaboration, and data-driven
decision-making. The review highlights challenges in knowledge sharing, data privacy, and
technology adoption, proposing solutions to improve knowledge flows among stakeholders. Smart
technologies for knowledge capture and dissemination are examined, and a future research agenda
based on five categories that arise with the findings is suggested to optimize KM in urban contexts.
