Abstract

Complexity and instability are inherent in sociotechnical systems. Resilience engineering focuses on designing systems that enable organizations to adapt to and manage uncertainties and unexpected events, promoting operational safety. Despite the importance of knowledge as a key organizational resource, there is a gap in studies on how knowledge practices enhance resilience potential. This article presents a scoping review of empirical studies linking knowledge and resilience in complex sociotechnical systems. The review, based on PRISMA-P, covers evidence of the relationship between knowledge and resilience engineering and the context linking knowledge to resilience. The results highlight organizational learning as both a means and an end for promoting resilience through knowledge.
